Spring is here and now is the time to get your gear in optimal condition for the golf season. We have a full service build shop here at Prime Golf offering services like regripping, reshafting, and swing weighting to work on your clubs, and club fitting services to make sure you have the right clubs for you!
One of the services we offer that covers both build shop and club fitting is loft and lie adjustments. Your clubs’ loft and lie angles can make a huge difference in performance and are highly personalized, each person and each swing will benefit from a different setup. That is what we are here for, to help you find what works best for your game.
How it works
We have a loft and lie adjustment machine in our build shop that allows us to bend the hosel of forged clubs, usually just irons and wedges. This gives us the flexibility to make small tweaks and adjustments as needed.
You might be wondering how we know what angles to use. For that, we offer game analysis services that can provide you a blueprint for your optimal club set-up.
Our experienced club fitters and instructors can run you through a practice session on our Trackman simulators where they use observational notes and hard data from the simulators to put this blueprint together.
We can work off of this blueprint to tweak your gear just right.
Why tweak your loft angle?
The loft angle of your club is the angle formed by the club face along the vertical plane when the club is lying in a neutral address position. It impacts the launch angle of your ball and how much height your shot will get. As you might expect, longer irons have lower loft angles while your wedges have the highest loft angles.
You might want to tweak your loft angle to better match where your game is at. Generally, newer golfers or higher handicap golfers would benefit from a slightly higher loft angle. And, players with a lower swing speed could benefit from the ease of elevating the ball with a slightly higher loft angle. Although they may lose some distance, it helps them get the ball in the air more consistently.
Faster swingers or lower handicap players may prefer lower loft angles to maximize distance.
Why tweak your lie angle?
The lie angle of your club is the angle of your golf club shaft and the ground when the club is at the proper playing position. This angle has a major impact on shot quality and accuracy, making it highly important to get right.
An incorrect lie angle causes your club to make contact with the ground at the wrong place, catching either too much of the toe or heel of the club head. That increases the likelihood of sending a shot in the wrong direction.
Lie angle is impacted by a golfer’s height and their neutral stance at address. Ensuring the lie angle of your clubs is configured for your stance reduces shot dispersion and keeps your balls in play more often.
How can I get a loft and lie adjustment?
Get in touch with us or stop in the shop to chat with our experienced staff about getting a loft and lie adjustment on your clubs! You may already know what they need to be, but we would generally recommend getting a fitting and game analysis to make sure the information is up-to-date and it gives us a chance to work with you on coming up with a plan!
